title

D2E International recognises the strategic importance of optimal elevatoring design for each individual building, especially high-rise buildings. D2E with their partners Barker Mohandas utilise their in-house Traffic Optimiser to calculate "possible" elevatoring solutions and recommend the most viable of these to meet stakeholder needs.

The Traffic Optimiser was completed after an extensive investment in software development, taking into consideration the many parameters necessary to design an elevator system for various types of high-rise buildings and comprehensive industry formulae, achieving its goal: to use modern optimization techniques to compute tedious calculations and combinations to find the all high-rise elevatoring solutions that meet the design input parameters. The unique ability of theTraffic Optimiser enables all solutions to be found for multiple groups of lifts, rather than traditional calculators or manufacturers' simulators that are limited to single group solutions. This means that D2E can present a complete choice of system solutions for a high-rise building, not just one or two that are found by combining single group calculations manually. The final solutions can then be selected and tailored for the individual building and depends on the strategic objectives of the particular building. Interestingly, elevator or lift traffic performance standards vary from country to country (e.g., 5 minute peak handling capacity, occupancy density), and do not necessarily reflect changes in the real estate market or the ways we work and/or live in a building. The Traffic Optimiser has been developed to flexibly compute all variations meeting the desired performance objectives, as well as the building parameters, and has the processing power to enable solutions to be compared quickly if the performance parameters are changed.

Advantages

  • Enables the building planner to quickly see the impact on elevator core space, to rationalise machine room locations, and to instantly see the elevator/lift quantities, sizes, speeds and floors served by group for pricing purposes.
  • Uniquely comprehensive calculations, feasible solutions, and ultimate solutions are presented in a short space of time, which allows the professional team to make their strategic decisions much faster
  • The tool's strength is not limited to new building projects, but also is used for redesigning existing systems, especially as floor populations and building use plans change significantly.
  • "Up-front value engineering" allows the planning team to focus more time on other design details.
  • Once a primary and alternate solution is chosen, prospective lift suppliers can promptly be provided with clear outline specifications and performance criteria so that the right lift system can be budget priced quickly.
